The House has had the location of Blackreach, one of the fabled lost cities of the Dwemer, for several weeks now. Thanks to the success of the House in Eastmarch and the successful defense of the Keep during the attack last month, their chances for success have greatly increased. Gideon is in sole possession of the map that shows one of the few remaining entrance's, Virius Nelius's forces have been defeated at every turn and their last ditch effort to steal the map met with failure.
But the danger isn't over. The House still must travel to the Pale and enter the fabled lost city in search of another memory cube for, Secundia Marcellina, Gideons sire and Elder within the Order. The Magister has produced several high quality hand drawn maps of the parts of Blackreach they will need to explore. Tomorrow the House rides, in force, the entire Praetorian, most of the night staff and all its members for this hidden entrance. Wagons loaded, horses ready to ride, and a area just inside the discovered lift marked for a basecamp, they were as ready as they were going to be.
Led by the Houses Champion Morriel, the warriors of Ravnore led the rest of the House deeper into Blackreach. Where the first basecamp had been established at the bottom of the lift leading into Blackreach, last night the House pushed further. Led by Morriel and with most of the warriors and scouts the House slowly worked their way inside, guided by a map that Gideon had provided his champion with.
Bal'thei'szar, Rigg, Limenia and the berserker Bjorn lead the house, weapons and shields raised through the fallen caves, and treacherous paths in search of this new chamber Gideon had deemed suitable for a new basecamp. Along their adventure they were accosted by Dwemer traps, automatons and even the vile Falmer. The party of adventures fought through several encounters but thankfully no one was critically hurt, though both Bjorn, Limenia and Bal'thei'szar were injured on the journey.
Once they reached the new camp, and found it to be secure Silene saw the injuries of those who needed tending and the party prepared the room for the rest of the House. Within an hour Gideon and his wife led the rest of the House down along with all the supplies and staff. The chamber was now full with servants and tents, crates of supplies and bustled like a small military camp. Already the Magister was preparing to send out parties to explore the fallen City in search of the Memory Cube they had come to retrieve.
One evening during the expedition, Marcellus Arius the gamekeeper led a hunting party out from camp to find food for the house. The party was made up of hunters, fishermen, trappers, scouts, herbalists, as well as mages and muscle to drive off the hostile dwemer constructs that still lingered nearby. The group visited two of the larger portions of the frozen stream above and below the encampment, placing snares for small game and then fishing with great success. Members of the party also gathered herbs and mushrooms that lay frozen beneath the snow to add to the feast. A few coneys were added to their haul, and they returned to the camp to cook and feast, satisfied with their takings.
As the stay in the depths of Blackreach continues, members of the House branched out into different parts of the underground Dwemer city, in search of the ever illusive memory cube. One evening, the House Champion, Morriel, found an icy cave leading down towards a settlement of the deformed creatures known as Falmer.
Gathering together a small strike team to hit the Falmer before any of them attack the basecamp, the group backtracked to t he valley the misshapen elves called home, only to find the area deserted. Following the tracks to the icy caves Morriel found after killing a few charrus, the party of warriors and scouts found that the Falmer settlement had been overrun just recently by some terrible evil. Statues made of ice dotted the caves, made from Falmer that had been frozen while standing and trails of blood were bodies had been dragged away dotted the caves.
Knowing that they had to investigate whatever did this before it attacked the camp, the group headed down into the damp Falmer caves, finding the place to be rancid and wet. Many of the group grew sick simply being in the thick miasma there and they only had the light of glowing rocks and mushrooms to guide them.
The party traveled in for some time before encountering the sound of drums going off further in the cave. As the signs of battle had trailed even farther in, the Champion made the executive decision to turn the group around, relying on the skills of mages in the party to seal the entrance to the cave up and keep any of the ancient evils within down there where they belong.
Finally, the last night of the expedition arrived. The house's combatants and researchers set out to finish the last leg of the journey and reach the location Gideon had marked upon the map.
The first sign of difficulty was a group of falmer which attempted to ambush the house. The scouts were dispatched easily enough, but the house soon encountered a split path--a narrow forest trail which led to an unknown destination, and the more direct path which cut directly through a falmer village.
Despite the suspicious silence from the village the house elected to press that route, only for it to be revealed as an ambush. As hundreds of falmer flooded along the icy path the house was forced to retreat and backtrack to the forest trail; fortunately the trail proved far safer, and after a few twists and turns and wrong directions the house reached their destination.
The way was barred by a door which required sacrifice in the form of mortal blood; the vampires in attendance were of little use in unlocking the door. So, as multiple mortals bled themselves in the task of unsealing the vault door, the vampires stood vanguard until the ritual was complete.
Once inside, they were greeted with the sight of another puzzle; three deactivated dwarven centurions and three pedestals. Two pedestals bore riches while the third held the memory cube the house had been sent to retrieve. The treasures were ignored in favor of retrieving the cube and getting out with minimal risk to the rest of the house. Though removing the cube caused the chamber to flood with lava, the house was able to escape with minimal injuries.
And thus the house was able to successfully retrieve the memory cube Gideon had been tasked to retrieve so many months ago, placing it back in the hands of the Order and ensuring the house remained in its good graces.
