The Dark Irruption
Chapter 2 Guild Arc, Part 1
A surprise attack leaves the Varro stronghold in ruin, her people in fear, and casts its very existence into imminent doubt. The "True Lord" has returned, and he demands loyalty. Those who do not bow, will die.
Last night, Varilian Varro delivered troubling news: someone in the Varro retinue planned to betray the house. Immediately after this revelation, tremors of earthquake shook the stronghold to its very core. Belisarius ordered an evacuation of the keep, and it was in the courtyard that the source of this earthquake was revealed.
Tiberius Aelianus had returned from presumed death to warn the House of an impending nightmare. Skeptical, those caught in the courtyard drew their swords as Belisarius fell to the ground clutching his chest. They attacked Tiberius out of fear for their lord.
That is when a dark portal tore a hole through the enchanted grounds and opened that stronghold to murder, magick, and mayhem. Two dark spirits claiming to serve the "True Lord" of House Varro stepped from that portal and commenced a horrorific onslaught that left the gates destroyed, the defenders wounded, and the spirits of the survivors gravely shaken. In the fighting, the veteran Nord known as Gorlic gave his life so that others might live. Despite the efforts of Rhilari and Tacita to save him, the man died at the foot of the cobble stairs in the form of a werebeast, cut asunder by one wicked strike of a dark specter.
With others horribly burned, maimed, and concussed, it seemed that the horse-lord and those few brave souls who stood their ground at the foot of the keep would meet their deaths at these evil hands.
But then the arrival of a third, and more regal figure, materialized from the darkened portal. It was Trajan Varro, the once-dead brother of Belisarius brought back by some nefarious power. Just when it seemed the end would be near for them all, Trajan called off the attack.
Trajan left them with an ominous warning: the True Lord was returning, and the reason he was sparing them now, was out of hope - no, command - that the survivors pledge their loyalty to him when he finally returns to unseat Belisarius. With the surprise attack successful beyond belief, Trajan and the dark entities left through the portal.
Afterward, Belisarius commanded Farik and Tiberius to track down Janus Varro, the man he assumed responsible for this betrayal, and for opening the portal for the attackers. The wounded were brought to the medical grounds where the lady Octavia and the apprentice Illia worked around the clock to tend to horrible wounds. Among the heavily injured were Tacita Varro, Ophira Quinel, and Varilian Varro. Belisarius ordered the corpse of the werewolf Gorlic to be transported to a secret location for burial.
