[NA-EP] <Redoran Noble House and Military> House Derethi
"House Redoran prizes the virtues of duty, gravity, and piety. Duty is to one's own honor, and to one's family and clan. Gravity is the essential seriousness of life. Life is hard, and events must be judged, endured, and reflected upon with due care and earnestness. Piety is respect for the gods, and the virtues they represent. A light, careless life is not worth living." — Great Houses of Morrowind
WHO ARE WE? (IC) | House Derethi is a Dunmer noble house operating under the banner of Great House Redoran. Led by Serjo Feran Derethi and his consort, Sedura Alavesa Ravel, It has its roots in the famed Sentinel Legions of House Redoran, and boasts an extensive and proud history of warriors. As the foremost Redoran holding in the primarily Indoril, Hlaalu and Dres-dominated regions of Stonefalls and Deshaan, House Derethi bears a heavy burden and important responsibility. The House possesses a small but formidable Militia of deadly efficient Redoran Warriors, as well as a select choice of domestic retainers, some said to even be of other races. Led by Feran Derethi, House Derethi currently presides over the security of the city of Ebonheart in Stonefalls, and the surrounding Zabamat ashlands, as well as their private estate just outside of the Morrowind capital of Mournhold. House Derethi is devoted to the safeguarding of Morrowind, and the upholding of the Redoran virtues of Duty, Gravity, and Piety.
WHO ARE WE? (OOC) | The DIRECT successor to both the House Of Redoran and Redoran Sentinel Legion Redoran guilds, House Derethi is a Roleplay guild designed to give players a Morrowind-themed, immersive lore-based experience as they take on the mantle of House Redoran within the rich world of the Elder Scrolls. In Ebonheart City, Redoran Sentinels (Also known as House Derethi Militia) act as the city's primary force of guards. We also make use of Tal'Deic Fortress, a Redoran stronghold in Deshaan, as training grounds for Militia and Retainers alike. Redoran is not all about soldiering and defending, however. Redoran is also known to house the premiere chefs and culinary artisans of Morrowind, and as a Great House, partakes in the extensive intrigue that surrounds the world of politics in Morrowind.
THE WORDS OF A TRUE REDORAN
”To join Great House Redoran is to defend Morrowind.”
“Whether one expresses these words in the ancient tongue of Ald Resdayn, or in the more Imperialized pidgin utilized on the streets of Blacklight, Ebonheart or Mournhold today, this is the sentiment that drives all Dunmer of Redoran. We do not merely speak these words. With blade, spear, shield, pickaxe, plow and with the quill and parchment, we live and breathe the message of these words.
We ever keep at the forefront of our minds, our solemn duty to protect the people of Morrowind.
We also never forget our commitment to our sacred duty, our commitment to honor and our commitment to our faith in the Blessed Triune: ALMSIVI. We honor the Daedra, the Saints, and we give our respect to the Aedra, for without the divine, we would not have the chance to serve. We stand firm with the other Great Houses of Morrowind in hope for a brighter future for our realm.
While Redoran is tight-lipped and soft-spoken, we are not, as some would portray us, bumpkins or hicks, devoid of sophistication. We have no qualms with the enjoyment of life; but we always stress that pleasure should never supersede the business of duty. But a Redoran knows that to take pleasure in the arms of your beloved, or to accept a bag of Septims for a task is no dishonor in of itself. To honor your beloved is to honor the family, one of the most fundamental aspects of Morrowind’s ancient and vaunted culture. And the heart of a lowly sellsword can display greater valor than the most decorated knight. And only the most honorable can hope to ascend to the ranks of the Redoran Sentinels, who are entrusted with upholding the laws of Morrowind and protecting its settlements.
But, Initiate, make no mistake about House Redoran. We do not, as a Great House, or as individuals, live for war. We are not Nords. In times of war we muster the Grand Army of House Redoran to defend Morrowind. The Redoran Guardsmen police the roadways and the streets, and ensures that the laws of Morrowind are obeyed. Yes, many sons and daughters of Redoran have marched with, and even commanded Pact Legions in the Three Banners Conflict, but we never forget our love of our homeland.
Great House Redoran lives to serve and to protect. Our greatest joy is to return home and exchange our swords and spears for plows and picks. When war is over, we farm, we mine, we smith. Our crops feed the people, our ebony enriches the realm and our smiths craft great works. The greatest pride of the Redoran is that we toil for Morrowind. We embody and uphold the ideal of the citizen militia and there is never a time when Redoran does not answer the call to defend Morrowind. To fail this calling is to fail as a Redoran.
But for all that we embody the way of the warrior and sponsor excellence in defense of the realm, remember always that Morrowind, Ald’Resdayn, was founded on both philosophical wisdom and martial excellence. True warriors do not live by blinded rage like the Nords or Orsimer. A Redoran holds their strength in check for the greater struggles. If ALMSIVI call you to fight, fight without hesitation and with conviction.
We meet the foes of Morrowind with our blades. Remember that we willingly suffer for this, and suffer in honorable silence, asking no reward. This is the Redoran way. But if, Initiate, it falls within your power to resolve a conflict without violence, swallow your pride, and do so. Redoran never fight simply to win glory and accolades. Leave such frivolity to the less wise. We strive for peace and unity in every step, every action we take. By doing so, we serve Morrowind and we serve ALMSIVI.
House Redoran can be joined by visiting our chapter houses in our capital, Blacklight, the main settlement of House Redoran, as well as in Ebonheart City, Tal'Deic Fortress and Ald'Ruhn. We also have representatives in Windhelm, the seat of the Ebonheart Pact's chosen leader, King Joruun.
And above all Initiate, never forget: Life is hard. Judge, endure, and reflect. A careless life is not worth living.”

HOUSE REDORAN WANTS YOU!
A WORTHY REDORAN | Embodying the virtues of Piety, Duty and Gravity, a worthy Redoran is a loyal Dunmer who outwardly supports the Temple's truth, and is bold enough to put their lives on the line in defense of Morrowind and the Tribunal. Occasionally, Outlanders may even be given the rare chance, should they prove themselves, to serve nobly in the Redoran Chap’Thil Militia. Regardless of their race, a Redoran must uphold and enforce Morrowind's law, but never forget their sense of Honor and their understanding of Mercy in all regards. Whether it be against forces beyond Morrowind's borders, criminals and heretics within, or the abominations of Oblivion itself, the Redoran stand strong, united under House and Temple.
CHARACTER GUIDELINES | The type of character who will do well in House Redoran is one who, at least outwardly, is devoutly committed to ALMSIVI, the God-Kings of Morrowind, Almalexia, Sotha sil, and Vivec, humble in that they must follow orders and fall into formations (if applicable), and ready to fight Morrowind's enemies both at home and abroad. Being cool under pressure is also a must. There are no class or level restrictions. For religious and political reasons, House Derethi cannot admit Vampires or Werewolves and regularly tests its members for such afflictions.
THE RIGHT PLAYER | The guild is looking for players mature enough to respect the well-established in-character chain of command, not only in House Redoran, but also within Dunmer culture itself. The perfect fit for House Redoran will be a dedicated role-player who doesn't always need to be the center of attention and enjoys being a part of something larger than themselves. We accept players with any level of lore-knowledge and role-play experience, and we are willing to teach both as best we can, rather than shun those who might be lacking in one area or the other.
RECRUITMENT STATUS: OPEN
Character Openings: Soldiers, House Guard, Bodyguards, Scribes, Servants, Artisans, Mages, Cooks, Scholars.

Once we've spoken, we'll conduct an IC introduction tailored towards your character's circumstance, and from there, your new life as a proud member of Great House Redoran begins.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IS HOUSE DERETHI A REVIVED REDORAN SENTINEL LEGION OR HOUSE OF REDORAN SUCCESSOR?
No, House Derethi is a separate entity that, while being the spiritual successor of the now-defunct Redoran Sentinel Legion and House Of Redoran guilds, does not operate exactly as the previous guilds did. House Derethi focuses on community participation and immersive storytelling in an atmosphere reflecting of Morrowind, the Dunmer race, and Great House Redoran. The guild features noble-themed roleplay, as well as military roleplay as its predecessors, but is not as strict on attendance and participation, and generally more laid back. In addition, the former commendation system of ranking up has been removed entirely, as has the concept of OOCly ranking up, to promote a higher emphasis on IC activity, rather than OOC totem-pole climbing.
HOW DOES A MEMEBER ASCEND IN OUR RANKING SYSTEM?
Rankings and promotions (aka advancement) are gauged by IC happenings. As a character serves the House ICly, so may they find their rank naturally advanced for their service. Presently, all advancement would take place strictly ICly.
WHY DO YOU ONLY ACCEPT DUNMER INTO THE HOUSE MILITIA?
In the interest of immersion and lore-adherence, we have yet to see any Redoran military personnel represented in ESO as anything but Dunmer. Some might argue that because in TES III: Morrowind, any race could join and rise through the ranks of Redoran, that the same should be said for a guild based around them in ESO. However, that was approximately 800 years after the events of ESO, and things have probably changed quite a bit culturally since then. While Great House Redoran would surely allow other races into its ranks as mercenaries, this elite group of warriors will remain Dunmer-exclusive for the moment.
HOW COME OUTLANDERS CANNOT RISE ABOVE THE RANK OF KINSMAN?
In the restrictive culture of the Dunmer, and of the seven non-Dunmer NPCs in House Redoran as depicted in TES III: Morrowind, none had risen above the rank of Kinsman, generally considered the highest non-noble rank in the House. The notable exception being if the player was not Dunmer, but that is an extreme exception, not a rule.
WHY ARE VAMPIRES OR WEREWOLVES NOT ALLOWED WITHIN THE GUILD?
In the interest of lore-adherence, Dunmer are highly abhorrent to Vampires and consider Werewolves little more than uncontrollable abominations. No culture in Tamriel outwardly embraces Vampirism or Lycanthropy, but no culture in Tamriel is quite as zealous against them as the Dunmeri Tribunal. This stems from their religious beliefs regarding undeath in the Dunmer culture, believing that Vampires are thralls of Molag Bal, one of the four "Bad Daedra" according to the Tribunal faith. Therefore, in order to join the Sentinels, the recruiters run a series of tests to determine if the potential recruit is afflicted with one of the strains of vampirism. Feel free to read the following two lore books, The House of Troubles and Blasphemous Revenants for more information regarding the relationship between Vampires and Tribunal doctrine. To a lesser extent, Werewolves are seen as degenerate servants of Hircine, a neutral Daedra in the eyes of the Dunmer, but regardless, not to be trusted.
WHY ARE THERE NO SLAVES IN THE GUILD IN-CHARACTER?
House Derethi, as a noble house under the banner of Great House Redoran, is a member of the Ebonheart Pact alliance. Under the terms of the Pact, slavery of any kind was outlawed in Morrowind, at least in the lands and houses controlled by Great House Redoran, Indoril, or Hlaalu. Great House Dres has special leeway, being allowed to continue their enslavement of NON-PACT races, while House Telvanni rejected membership in the alliance and still practices slavery on any and all members of Tamriel's sentient races.
OUR LORE AND OTHER RESOURCES
THE REDORAN OATH
All members of House Derethi would have ICly taken the following oath:
“Before the Eyes of blessed ALMSIVI, and the Great Houses of Morrowind, I do on this day renounce any and all previous standing within my former House.”
“Before the Eyes of the blessed prophet, Veloth, I do swear to uphold the honor and integrity of the Chosen people.”
“Before the Eyes of Saint Nerevar the Captain, I swear my undying loyalty to Great House Redoran, the warriors and protectors of Resdayn and the Dunmeri people.”
“Before the eyes of my Ancestors, I swear to uphold the laws of blessed ALMSIVI, and never cease in the pursuit of justice, and the destruction of all that is unholy or would harm the people of Morrowind.”
“And before the eyes of all of our brothers and sisters across Morrowind, I swear to uphold the key virtues of Great House Redoran; Duty, Gravity, and Piety. For a Redoran's duty is first to the Tribunal, second to the Great House Redoran, and third to their’s family and clan.”
“Ae Vvarden Redoranis - I am the shield of Redoran. Ae Altadoon Resdaynia - I am the weapon of Morrowind.”
HOUSE DERETHI HOLDINGS
House Derethi operates primarily out of the city of Ebonheart, stationed within the Grand Embassy with Militia contingents patrolling the city and the surrounding lands. We share this city with several other role-play guilds, and do not claim ownership over the RP space. House Derethi also possesses a sizeable estate in Mournhold, and frequently makes use of Tal'Deic Fortress's training complexes.
LAWS OF THE LAND
Common laws that the Militia of House Derethi enforces (primarily in the city of Ebonheart)..
I. Theft - Stealing something from someone's property is punishable by a fine equivalent to the value of the item or 3 in-game day imprisonment (each day being 4 real-time hours).
II. Trespassing - Entering a property or area not typically open to the public is punishable by a 50 gold fine or 1 in-game day imprisonment. Warnings are issued first and if trespasser does not comply they are to be charged.
III. Sleeping - Sleeping in an owned bed or sleeping in a public place within a city is punishable by a 50 gold fine or 1 in-game day imprisonment.
IV. Pick-pocketing - Picking someone's pocket even unsuccessfully is punishable by a 250 gold fine or 2 in-game day imprisonment. Any items taken are charged under Theft laws (see above)
V. Assault - Attacking someone with intent to harm, with either one's extremity, weapon or spell, is punishable by a 400 gold fine or 3 in-game day imprisonment. Self-defense is not a crime.
VI. Murder - Aggravated or pre-meditated murder is judged via trial and if proven guilty comes with a 10,000 gold fine AND 14 in-game days imprisonment. If fine cannot be met another 14 in-game days may be added to the sentence.
VIII. Loitering - Loitering is not a crime, but suspicion/questioning may be leveled against any masked individuals seen loitering in an area for more than 3 consecutive in-game days.
IX. Heresy - Heretical or blasphemous speech with regards to the Tribunal is to be reported and dealt with by Temple Ordinators. Sentinels may detain heretical individuals and send for Temple Ordinators. Temple authority handles all judicial matters.
VIRTUES OF A TRUE REDORAN
A Redoran must embody the following qualities...
DUTY - A Redoran's duty is first to the Tribunal Temple, second to the Great House Redoran, and third to one's family and clan.
PIETY- A Redoran must show piety to Almsivi, to the Aedra and the Daedra, our rulers, creators and ancestors. For without the divine, we would not have the chance to serve.
GRAVITY - A Redoran must know the virtue of gravity. It is not the Redoran way to laugh at serious matters, for it shows disrespect.
COURAGE - A Redoran must be bold and courageous, never backing down when challenged and never hesitating to stand firm for their beliefs.
LOYALTY - A Redoran must show unwavering loyalty and commitment to the Tribunal, to the House and to Morrowind. A Redoran must never falter in this.
MERCY - A Redoran must understand the virtues of Ayem's mercy, in all its forms. Mercy is the road to peace, whether it is dispensed by the tip of a tongue or the blade of a sword.
HONESTY - A Redoran must be forthright in all instances, exercising their knowledge of truth and sincerity. A true Redoran is never dishonest.
DISCIPLINE - A Redoran must keep their passions and their emotions under control at all times, never allowing them to cloud their mind or judgment.
